How does blogging/setting up a blog help a small to meduim size business grow?

December 16th, 2009

Can a blog really be that helpful? What type of content should a business blog have? If there are any blog experts out there please help me out. What are some good companies to set up a blog with? And any other general/specific information on setting up a blog for a business…

It does not help at all. Blogging is just a fun thing to do..

A blog for small business is not only helpful it is a necessity if you want to achieve online success. The best way to set up a blog for a business is to host your own domain name and use a Wordpress blog on it.
I have just begun a blog series of articles on http://www.shesagogetter.com that will help walk you through starting to blog.
Our business blogs drive a huge amount of traffic to our website and will do the same for yours if you do it right. I would be glad to help you out if you need more info on setting up your blog.

If your business already has an online presence in the form of a website, then setting up a blog on a subdomain is easy. Most businesses use blogs to bring traffic into their main website and thereby increasing interest in their business all the way around.

The internet is alive with information and there is always room for more. Who better to share their expertise in certain niches than those who are actually in business in that niche? For example, if you run a floral business and you decide to set up a blog to bring in traffic, you would write content relevant to the floral industry. Articles about what plants work best during which seasons, or articles with tips on how to save a dying plant, etc. You would cover everything from beginner information to useful tips that can only be learned through trial and error.

The cool thing about blogs is that they index quickly in search engines and as long as they link back to your main site, it’s instant traffic. With a little bit of cheap marketing and a unique business, you could be king of the web in no time.

If you already have a website, there is nothing to purchase and you shouldn’t go through a company. Simply install an open source blog platform like Wordpress on a subdomain and get some content up. If your company has a web designer, this should be no problem for that individual. It’s a very low cost endeavor.

Since the other answers are very well done, Ill only add, that what makes a blog particular useful is the constantly changing content, when people submit comments they are adding to your content and creating more possible search results to lead back to your business.

The very best choice is to have your own domain, and then add a blog as a subdomain.

    ex) http://www.blog.techievacuums.com

If you dont have a host yet or your own domain, I would suggest Godaddy because they have great customer service for beginners, a built in blog program and various other perks, like advertising credits

If you dont want to start with a paid site
I find http://www.blogspot.com to have the best designs and least limitations of all the free sites, with wordpress coming up a close second (no javascript and not as integrated w/ other resources)

Thats a blog on promoting your blog once you begin it

Blogging is a great way to communicate with your customers and it’s also a terrific way to drive targeted traffic to your business website. Nowadays, it is so easy to set up a blog on that anybody can do it.

I suggest you spend a few bucks on the Blogging for Dummies Book or a blogging course like Rob Benwell’s Blogging to the Bank. The reading material will help you set things up right the first time so that you don’t have to do things over again.

I have a "Start Your Own Blog" site on blogspot that reviews a number of good books on the subject, I have reviewed both of the above books along with many others. If you’d like to read either review, you can find them here:
