No More Poverty for Writers – Making Money With a Blog

March 3rd, 2010

Writing is one of those careers where you would either make it big or end up in poverty. The difficulties of finding a publisher to print and sell your novel or a magazine to take in your column cannot simply be described. Luckily, this image of a writer may already be a thing of the past, thanks to the recent technological advancements.

While in the old days, individuals in the writing profession had to rely on other people to earn; today’s writers can now generate an income out of their craft by turning their passion into business. Hard as it may sound, this endeavor can indeed be an easy-to-achieve possibility with the use of blogs. Surprising, as it may seem, you can indeed be making money with a blog by just whipping up your hidden writing talent.

Whether you are new to the world of blogging, or you have been typing your entire life on the Internet for years, making money with a blog is a possibility that you can accomplish. Here are some few tips that could help you do so:

1. Earn using Google – What was once just a search engine is now among the most powerful enterprises throughout the world, not only in terms of its reach, but also in terms of its income generating possibilities. You can earn from Google by using their free service known as AdSense. All you need to do is have a blog and sell space within your page for ads to be posted by AdSense. The service would then allow you to display ad units – ad boxes – that would display advertisements related to the topics you write about in your blog.

For instance, you wrote about the sweater you just knit, and then the ad unit might display ads about sweaters or knitting. Every time your visitors click on any of these ads, you would get a certain amount. When your earnings reach at least a hundred dollars, Google would then send you a check.

2. Promote Other Profitable Sites- a lot of online businesses offer affiliate programs. These work by you having their ads posted on your blog. When a visitor clicks the ad and then purchases something from that company, you would then receive a commission or a referral fee. A lot of the bigwigs of Internet shopping run such programs including Amazon.com, LinkShare, and Lands’ End, among many others. The percentages you can earn from their sales vary depending on the company’s policies.

3. Be an Ad Salesman – The downside of Google ads and affiliate programs is you do not really have much control on your earnings and the ads that are displayed on your blog. If you want to play more seriously in the ad selling game, then you can use BlogAds’ free databases where you can set prices for advertisers to post your blog. Some companies look for blogs that match their products and services and rent ad space the way they do with those traditional billboards you find along the freeway. You ad space can then be leased for a certain period of time. You would just need to pay 20 percent of your earnings to BlogAd.

4. Pass the Hat – While begging may not be so attractive as a means of getting many, doing it in style – online, that is – could be quite appealing, and not to mention profitable. There is nothing wrong about asking for money, and you could indeed make money if you ask nicely or if people like you (and your blog).

Many blogs have donation buttons on them. And true enough, many avid fans and visitors may be willing to share some of their wealth to you as a sign of appreciation for your well-written, compelling, and riveting blog. Donation buttons may be availed from PayPal, the famous escrow service, who would get a little out of your earnings when people do decide to spare some change. Similar options are offered by Amazon (Honor System) and BitPass

5. Start a Gift Shop – if your blog becomes popular enough that hoards of people all over the world visit it everyday. Then you may then profit from selling souvenirs. And the good news is you would not have to press your logo on those T-shirts or coffee mugs, CafePress would do it for you. CafePress offers to sell for you anything from those cute buttons to daring thongs. The selling price is up to you; you just need to pay them the base price of the products.

Making money out of a blog is not as hard as it seems. But of course like in any other moneymaking venture, you have to do your job and do it well. Soon enough your days as a poverty-stricken bard would be over.

Google Traffic Report Card-Does Your Website Pass? Part 1 of 7

March 1st, 2010

This is part 1 of a 7 part series that examines the 7 factors of
incoming links that Google considers when choosing a spot for
your website in it’s SERP’s.

Why incoming links? First because these are what Google places
the highest value on. But, all incoming links are NOT created
equal. This 7 part course looks at the kinds of links Google
values when “rating” your website in the SERP’s. Each type of
link discussed is important to your overall link strategy and
consequently your free traffic levels.

The first factor is of course the anchor text used in your
incoming links. The importance of the keywords used to link to
your website are more important to Google than the content that
is actually on your page. You can generally use anchor link text
with your keywords and not even have the keywords on the page
and still get a good ranking in Google for that term if enough
incoming links have that keyword pharse in them.

If you’ve heard of the phrase “Google Bombing” then you know
what I’m talking about. Basically it’s when a set of webmasters
or blog owners decide to get a page ranked for a certain term
and all leave links back to the selected site with the keyword
phrase that they want that page to rank for.

The most notorious example of this is the “bombing” done by
several blog owners to the George W Bush biograpby page. Several
bloggers left links to the page containing the keyword text
“miserable failure” and consequently this page turns up as the
number 1 result in Google for the term, even though the words
don’t appear anywhere on the page.

The “Google Bombing” was done by at most a few hundred links
with this link text pointing to the page. Though more links
would probably be necissary for a more competative term. Still,
it goes to show how important link text is to the rankings of a
page.

Google Bombing is nothing new. But what many people don’t
realize is that Google places more relevance on the anchor link
text that it finds when it first discovers a link to your
website. Each consequent link either adds value to that first
impression or subtracts from it.

Many times you can control which link google finds first just by
knowing where google goes regularly (like on a daily basis) and
effectively placing your link in it’s path. This is called
“baiting” the google bot to visit your website through this link.

Each link you place after this initial link should further show
google that their first impression (or the first keywords it
discovered that linked to your website) was and still is
correct. Each subsiquent link is a “vote” so to speak to
validate Google’s original impression of what your website is
about.

Placing that first link to be found by Google is only the first
step, but a very important one. Choose your anchor text keywords
carefully. Each incoming link you place after this one should
serve to validate this first impression. Part 2 will discuss the
appearance and disappearance of links over time and how they
effect your traffic and search engine placement.

Affiliate Programs And Google Adwords – Get Huge Profits

February 28th, 2010

Affiliate Programs like ClickBank are the best ways of get an extra income every month without spend money. You can join for free in just minutes with ClickBank and start offering Digital Products to your customers. If you have a good double opt-in email list or just a blog or website, you can add ClickBank to get an extra income.

ClickBank only allow to sellers offer Digital Products or Inmediate Download Products, it means that after buyer pay for it can download it. Its one of most important features of ClickBank and for this, it’s the best Affiliate Program.

About 3 months ago, I read the ebook Google Cash, where the author explain the best ways to get Affiliate Sales using Google Adwords. There are others ebooks about Google Adwords and ways to get affiliate sales using it, I recommend that you search and read for it, because it’s a good way to get money faster.

Google Adwords Is one of the best ways of promote your site, online business or what you want to promote. You can join Google Adwords here: http://www.google.com/adwords/ After join, you can setup your first Ad, where you will be able to select the “Ad Text”, “Ad Link to show”, “Ad link to go after click”, “Ad Title” and “Ad keywords”. You will need to think about what product want to promote. Remember, Adwords will send you people that are searching for this product. For example, if you are searching for “Cars” in Google, you will see that after press “Search button” some ads appears in the right and maybe above of search results. Adwords will put your ad on this places exactly when people is searching it, so in less words, people will see ads of what they are searching for. For this reason Adwords is most effective ways to promote your business.

You can setup your keywords, you will need to search about keywords using Overture Keyword Tool, where you will be able to enter the keyword and will get last month searches for this keyword and related phrases, also you will be able to get “Advertisers Bids” for this keywords.

Selecting most common keywords is not always the best solution, because keywords like “email” or “car” are really spensive, because this keywords are most searched In Internet. Maybe you can select other related keywords, or phrases. There are lot of it that are also searched and cost the minimum ($0.05)

Ok, now you have your product selected (using ClickBank), you have the right keywords and your Ad designed (title and text). After you complete the Adwords Steps, your ad will be sent for “Approval” and Google Team will approve (or not) in just one day (sometimes I got it approved the same day).

With $50 you can start your own Adwords Campaign, if you selected keywords as low as $0.05, so with $50 you will get 1,000 Relevant and Exactly visits to your products, just think that if your product is nice and good, you may get 10 or more sales, and if you get only $12.50 per sale, you will get $125.00 for $50 of investment. ($75 ROI)

Ok, now, if it is your first time with Adwords, and don’t want to spend your first $50 you can go to ebay.com, register an account for free, and search for “Adwords Coupons”. You will get a list with all auctions related with Adwords Coupons. What is it? Adwords Coupons are links or just “coupons” to get discounts or free Adwords Credit. You can buy at ebay.com $55 free adwords credit for less than $2, and it works fine. I used it last months, but after I got real profit from my sales I never didn’t use it again, because if im a really “internet marketer” I need to spend some money to get success, not all is free, or just not always people can get free promotion.

Do all above, read more about Google Adwords in Adwords Support Center, you will get lot of features like “Select the Country where you want to offer your product”, it’s a good option because you will not want to offer products to all countries… you only will want to offer it to specified country, to get more targeted visits to your Ad.

Im getting real profit from this tactic, its very used for Webmasters and People around the globe, and its one of best ways to get real income in just one week.

Adwords and Affiliate Programs are only one way to get online revenue, there are many other ways. If you want to see latest articles and resources for online business, just go to my own blog http://www.waysofmakemoney.com and you will find lot of fresh content about Online Business and also lot of resources and more great tools for your business. You also can join to my Free Newsletter to get latest info directly to your email every week.

Good Luck!!!

Google Adsense: How To Write Great Blogs

February 26th, 2010

The best thing about blogging is that there are no rules. You can write about anything you want. A self-publisher’s dream! There are some things you can do though to maximize your Google Adsense profits. Narrow your subject. Don’t just write about shopping. Write about shopping for antique dresser drawer pulls. Write every day. Have a blog at more than one site. If you develop a readership, you’re more likely to increase your profits.

Write about something you know or want to know or at the very least care about. If you try to write a great blog based on a “hot keyword” yet it’s something you could care less about, you’ll likely not stay with it long. Experiment and see what works for you. You can write based on your own opinion or something factual. You can review a product or service or a movie. Read other people’s blogs and notice how many reads they’re getting. Above all, have fun. After all, it’s free and if you’re persistent you’ll see your Google Adsense dollars adding up.

Google Adsense: Learning About the Program and the Most Important Rule

How Does Google Adsense Program Work For Webmasters Wanting to Earn Income?

Advertisers pay Google when someone clicks on their ads which are placed on pages that contain text. For example, if you write content about lawn mowers, you will likely see ads from lawn mower manufacturers and/or retailers on that page. When someone clicks on those ads, the advertiser pays Google and Google pays you. Of course, the advertiser is hoping the person that clicked on the add will actually purchase the lawn mower or whatever they’re offering. Most people can make their AdSense sites veritable cash cows! Free $97 Secret Adsense Book at http://www.honestreview.info/adsense/index.htm

In fact, Google is very strict about the integrity of this process. You are forbidden to click on your own ads. If you do, your Adsense account will be terminated and you might never get it back. You are also prohibited from asking others to click on “your ads”. It makes sense. Why would advertisers want to pay just so your friends and family could click on your ads when no one is really interested in purchasing the lawn mower or subject of the ad.

The good news is that it’s not necessary to “cheat.” Google Adsense is so easy you’ll make more money just going by the rules. Have or write interesting content that will turn up in search engines and you have “targeted” the right people to read those ads. Just think, somebody in Indiana buys a lawn mower and you get a commission!

What Not to Tell Others About the Google Adsense Program – The Most Important Rule

Sympathy only goes so far. Not only is it against the Google Adsense Program Policies but if you rely on friends and family members to click on your ads instead of diligently working the program, you’re cheating yourself – and the Google Adsense Program.

The “help me out” wail may work when your kid is selling outrageously expensive candles for the end of the year school party but it has no place in the Google Adsense Program.

Besides, if you’re asking people to click on your ads, that means you’re not optimizing your site for valid clicks as well as referrals. Use that same energy to polish your content and your site. When family and friends ask what you’ve been up to, you can proudly show them your hard work. When they see how excited you are, you’ll see your referral revenue go up.

Join the “dofollow” Community and Attract More Visitors to Your Blog

February 25th, 2010

Technorati estimate that there are over 175,000 new blogs created every day; while existing blogs are updated 18 times every second, or 1.6 million new posts written every 24 hours.

This is a phenomenal amount of blogging and if you have started your own blog you may well wonder how you will find an audience amongst so much other output.

The truth is, you’ve got a hard job on your hands to find a readership. There is absolutely no doubt that everybody in the blogosphere will advise you that you need quality content because no matter what tricks you pull to attract new visitors they will not come back again unless you offer great articles and commentary for your niche.

It is fine now and again to write short items promoting other people’s work or a video you have found on YouTube, but the meat of your blog must be interesting, well-researched and well-thought through articles. If you love the niche you are part of then this will come naturally.

Don’t start off with massive amounts of enthusiasm and then a few months later sag because you have burnt yourself out. It’s best not to publish more than one post per week or you’ll quickly run out of ideas – quality takes time, and quality beats quantity every time.

Don’t expect more than 10 visitors to you blog on any one day during the first six months of its life. For starters, it takes at least six to nine months before Google and Yahoo seriously begins to index the pages of you blog for inclusion in their rankings.

There are many, many ways of publicising your blog. You could add it to MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog and then start interacting with other bloggers in your niche, you could also post up the URL in the forums that you are a part of. Don’t forget to submit it to some free directories.

Another way is to join the “dofollow” community.

In January 2005 Google introduced the nofollow attribute. This adds the following code to a HTML link: rel=”nofollow”. Simplified, this puts a stop sign on the door by telling the search engine bot not to count the webpage in its ranking calculations, and as every person involved in SEO will tell you: build lots of inbound quality links in order to do well in the search engines.

Over night in 2005 the Google game changed as blogging platforms like Wordpess slapped nofollow all over blog comments. Millions and millions of links were now discounted.

Some bloggers though were not happy about this change. They knew that this wouldn’t stop spam and so continued to leave off the nofollow attribute. This became known as “dofollow”, although in actual fact there is no snippet of code which reads as such.

“Dofollow” simply means the absence of the nofollow attribute.

These refuseniks wanted to reward their regular commentators with a little link love. Why shouldn’t they receive a little boost for the time they take to engage with my blog, they theorised.

“Dofollow” is an incentive for your readers to comment often and come back regularly.

So, if you are a blog owner then how do you make a switch to “dofollow”?

Well, that depends on what software you use. The best idea is to visit DoFollow 001 and read the article “Dofollow” Guidelines for Webmasters and Bloggers.

This will give you advice and ideas on how to join the “dofollow” community.

Once you have flipped your website over, sign-up with DoFollow 001 and submit your website to its directory.
